Wise Men

December 21, 2005

Many modern Christmas illustrations and images tend to focus on Santa, his elves, Christmas trees, presents etc. All that stuff is fine, but it's ultimately just not what Christmas is really about. Instead of doing just another one of these types of images I wanted to show something else; The Three Wise Men (also called The Three Kings or The Magi) following the bright star on Christmas eve.

High-res

Width: 1024 pixels

Technically, this image ended up being a rather strange hybrid between realistic and cartoon style wise. The external renderer Yafray for Blender, brought some quite usefull features to the image. Without Yafray's very beautiful bump mapping, displacement and fast realistic light calculations, the image would not have been half as good.

Great credit to all the people commenting and criticizing on the image in my wip-thread on the Danish 3dmaxer.dk forums.
